1. Medersa Ben Youssef

If you’ve looked up the most Instagrammable places in Marrakech, chances are Ben Youssef Madrasa was on every list and for good reason. 

This stunning former Islamic college is one of the most beautiful examples of traditional Moroccan architecture, and easily one of the best places to take photos in Marrakech.

Originally built in the 14th century and later expanded by the Saadians, the Medersa is a former Islamic college with a breathtaking central courtyard. 

The details are insane: hand-carved cedar wood, intricate zellige tilework, and symmetrical arches that practically beg to be photographed.

Don’t forget to visit the second floor as well! You can see the courtyard from the top and take a photo of the cute little window on the other side.

I got there right after opening, and for a blissful 10 minutes, I had the place all to myself. The silence, the light, and the stillness… It was one of my favorite photography moments in Marrakech.

2. The Souks

Wandering through the souks is one of the most unforgettable experiences in the Medina and also one of the best photo spots in Marrakech. This maze of narrow alleys, vibrant stalls, and sunlit courtyards pulls you right into the rhythm of the old city. 

If you’re wondering where to take photos in the Medina of Marrakech, the souks are the perfect place to start. You’ll find everything from handwoven carpets and babouches to natural argan oil and antique door knockers. 

While the main arteries near Jemaa el-Fna are more touristy, the real charm (and the most Instagrammable places in Marrakech) are hidden deeper inside.

One of my favorite spots? Place des Épices (Spice Square). If you’ve seen that dreamy pink-walled apothecary in travel photos, you’re probably thinking of Herboristerie Avicenne, which is right on the square.

Just behind it, you’ll find Khalidoun Art, a small boutique that feels like a secret. It’s one of those hidden photo spots in Marrakech where you can snap without crowds.

Also worth adding to your route: Souk Cherifia (great for curated boutiques) and D.S. Abdelaziz Street, which leads straight to the elegant Dar El Bacha. 

While it’s fun to get lost in the souks, bookmarking a few stops in advance can help you find those extra-special corners that most travelers miss.

📸 Photo Tip: For the best light and fewer crowds, visit in the morning, but crowds are part of the charm in the souks. If you are visiting during the summer, midday & late afternoon are way too hot to wander around.

3. El Badi Palace

If you’re searching for the best photo spots in Marrakech, El Badi Palace is a must. Once the most opulent palace in Morocco, this 16th-century Saadian marvel has crumbled into beautiful ruins. And that’s exactly what makes it so photogenic.

The contrast between the vast sunken gardens, crumbling orange walls, and nesting storks perched high above creates a scene that feels like it’s out of a movie. It is a huge contrast to the medina’s tightly packed streets.

This is one of the top photo locations in the Marrakech Medina if you are looking for unique architecture with a story to tell. Just be warned: there’s little shade here, so if you’re visiting during the summer months, early morning is the best time to visit.

4. Le Jardin Secret

Right in the heart of the souks, Le Jardin Secret offers a surprisingly calm and photogenic escape that makes it one of the Instagrammable places in the Marrakech Medina.

The site is divided into two gardens: an Islamic garden with precise geometric layouts and flowing water channels, and an exotic garden filled with plants from around the world. 

There’s also a lookout point and tower (for an extra fee!). It is nice to see the garden from the top, but some rooftop cafes can easily top the view from the tower.

It may not be a hidden gem anymore, but it’s still one of the best photo spots in Marrakech. Especially if you enjoy shooting architecture, gardens, and quiet symmetry.

5. Bahia Palace

Bahia Palace is easily one of the top attractions to see in the Marrakech Medina, and it’s a place that truly lives up to the hype. The name “Bahia” means brilliance, and it fits perfectly.

This massive complex of gardens, courtyards, and beautifully decorated salons showcases the finest examples of Moroccan craftsmanship. From painted cedarwood ceilings to colorful zellij tilework and elegant archways.

It’s also one of the most Instagrammable places in Marrakech, especially the grand central courtyard with its white marble floor and detailed mosaics.

Is it overrated? Not at all. In my opinion, it’s one of the must-see places in Marrakech, especially for those interested in Moorish architecture and historical photo spots in the Medina.

6. Koutoubia Mosque

The Koutoubia Mosque is another beautiful place in Marrakech. Its 77-meter-high minaret towers above the city and can be seen from several locations in Medina.

Built in the 12th century, Koutoubia served as the architectural inspiration for iconic towers like the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. 

While non-Muslims can’t enter the mosque itself, the exterior is more than enough reason to visit. The detailed sandstone design, palm tree surroundings, and Atlas Mountains in the back offer fantastic photography opportunities.

This area is one of the best places to take photos in Marrakech, whether you’re shooting street scenes, silhouettes, or symmetrical compositions. 

📸 Pro tip: For elevated views of the Koutoubia minaret, head to one of the nearby rooftops like Dardar, El Fenn Rooftop Bar, or MK Rooftop Marrakech. All offer unique perspectives, especially at sunset.

7. Dar El Bacha Museum and Bacha Coffee

If you’re looking for one of the most Instagrammable places in Marrakech, Dar El Bacha ticks all the boxes. 

Built in the early 20th century for Thami El Glaoui, the former Pasha of Marrakech, this palace-turned-museum is a great place to escape the Medina’s chaos for an hour or two. 

The museum hosts rotating exhibitions, but the real highlight is the building itself. Think prettiest places in Marrakech kind of vibe: painted ceilings, intricate stucco, and a courtyard that feels like a movie set. 

And of course, no visit is complete without a stop at Bacha Coffee. It’s hands-down one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Morocco.

Love it or hate it, Jemaa el-Fna is the pulsing heart of Medina, and easily one of the most iconic and Instagrammable places in Marrakech. 

As the sun starts to set, the space fills with street performers, food carts, musicians, and massive crowds. That’s when the real show begins. And when the best Marrakech photos happen.

Even though it’s not the place I’d linger in for hours, I always find myself stopping by. It’s chaotic, yes. But also kind of magical and extremely picturesque.

9. Jardin Majorelle

If there’s one place that absolutely lives up to the hype in Marrakech, it’s Jardin Majorelle. Tucked away in the modern part of the city but still close enough to visit from the Medina, this iconic garden is a must for photographers.

Originally created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent, the garden is a masterpiece of color and composition.

Here’s a hidden gem that not many travelers know about: the Moroccan Culinary Arts Museum. This beautifully restored riad is a museum and one of the best hidden photo spots in Marrakech.

For starters, it is a great place to take cooking classes and to explore the culinary art of Morocco. But the building itself is stunning, and I am sure you will love Le Douar restaurant and the wood-covered courtyard surrounding it.

There’s also a small rooftop café where you can sip mint tea and get a lovely view over the Medina rooftops. Another underrated photo spot in Marrakech.

And the best part? You can visit the Moroccan Culinary Arts Museum for free! On top of that, it doesn’t get crowded since not so many tourists know about this place.

11. Riad Yima Boutique & Art Gallery

If you’re hunting for one of the most unique and Instagrammable places in Marrakech, Riad Yima Boutique & Art Gallery is it. 

Tucked down a quiet alley just off the busy medina streets, this vibrant space curated by Moroccan pop artist Hassan Hajjaj is unlike anything else you’ll see in the city.

Riad Yima is part boutique, part art installation, and part creative explosion. The colors, the textures, the quirky details, it’s a photographer’s dream. And yes, you can take as many photos as you like.

Entry is completely free. You’re welcome to browse, shoot, and soak in the energy with zero pressure to buy. But don’t miss their homemade tea!

One of the best ways to escape the chaos of the medina is by heading up to the rooftop cafes. These rooftops are also some of the most Instagrammable places in Marrakech. 

One of my favorites is L’mida Marrakech, where bold design meets vibrant flavors and the rooftop vibe is always lively. 

El Fenn Rooftop Bar is perfect if you’re looking for luxury. Stylish cocktails, a laid-back ambiance, and dreamy views over the Koutoubia Mosque. 

Then there’s Atay Cafe, a more casual spot with layered terraces and colorful decor, great for a relaxed tea break or affordable meal. 

Dar Dar Rooftop offers a fun and contemporary vibe, perfect for cocktails at sunset with a view, while MÖ-MÖ Restaurant takes things up a notch with elegant plating, upscale interiors, and beautiful city panoramas.

15. Less popular Instagram spots short ride from Medina, Marrakech

If you’re looking to explore Instagrammable places beyond central Marrakech, there are a few hidden gems just outside the old town that are absolutely worth the detour. 

Musée de la Palmeraie is a peaceful oasis filled with contemporary Moroccan art and sculpture, set among palm groves and traditional architecture. It’s like stepping into a private artist’s retreat.

Not far from there, Anima Garden (created by artist André Heller) is one of the most whimsical and colorful gardens you’ll ever see. Surreal sculptures, mountain views, and vibrant botanical life all wrapped into one magical space.

For something truly unique, head to Cactus THIEMANN, the largest cactus garden in Morocco. Rows of towering cacti and desert plants create a dramatic, photogenic landscape that feels a world away from the medina’s maze.

You can also go to the Menara Gardens near the airport, but I would recommend visiting this garden on a clear day when the Atlas Mountains are clearly visible behind the Pavilion.
