And of course, even more wine. We wrapped up the meal with fernet and Coca-Cola – because that’s how locals do it. They basically cover all the Argentinian dishes you should try in Buenos Aires.

Parrilla Peña holds a special place in my heart as I had one of the best steaks in Buenos Aires. Located in Centro, just a few meters from Teatro Colón, this is hands down one of the best parrillas in Buenos Aires, loved by locals and tourists.

The experience at Parrilla Peña begins with delicious, complimentary homemade empanadas. Don’t overindulge, though, because the meat here is incredible, and the portions are generous. I can’t even put into words how juicy their bife de chorizo was! You need to try it for yourself.

The restaurant is not pretentious but refined, with friendly and professional service. There’s a good selection of wines, too. As more tourists discover this hidden gem, prices have risen slightly, but it’s impossible not to fall in love with this place.

Some locals say that Parrilla Peña sources its meat from the same farm as Don Julio. I can’t confirm if that’s true, but I can definitely recommend it as a great budget-friendly alternative to Don Julio.

I used to live near 1880 and quickly became a regular customer because of its incredible steak. Located in San Telmo, just a short distance from La Boca, this restaurant is often missed by tourists, yet it’s one of the best parrillas in Buenos Aires for value for money.

The ambiance is charmingly retro, with vintage posters on the walls, reminiscent of Buenos Aires’ historical bar notables. But the real showstopper is the meat. 

My favorite cut was ojo de bife, but the bife de lomo deserves a mention, too. Their provoleta and homemade chimichurri perfectly complement the meat for an authentic Argentine steak experience.

Service is warm and professional, and after just two visits, they treated us like friends. The prices are very reasonable considering the high-quality meat and the restaurant’s prime location.

Our landlord recommended this secret spot in Buenos Aires, tucked between San Telmo and La Boca near Parque Lezama. And I have to say that I am so glad I got to experience this wonderful restaurant.

5. El Remanso

The setting is simple yet refined, with brick walls and soft lighting that create a cozy atmosphere. Here, I had a delicious bife de chorizo. One of the juiciest steaks I’ve had in Buenos Aires. My boyfriend’s favorites were the asado de tira and entraña. 

If you’re in the mood for something different, there are also pasta options. Plus, there’s a great selection of local wines to pair with your meal.

Although Google says the restaurant opens at 7.30 pm, don’t be surprised if they’re not fully ready at that time. Arriving slightly later might be a better idea.

Considering the quality and location, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. That’s why I consider El Remanso one of the best traditional parrillas in Buenos Aires for both value and the overall experience.

The restaurant is as simple as it gets, completely unpretentious. You come here for the love of meat. I especially recommend the ojo de bife and entraña. I love that you can order half a portion, which is great because the full portion is quite generous.

There’s also a simple but solid selection of house wines, and the hospitality made me feel right at home.

If you’re wondering where to eat steak in Buenos Aires until you drop, there’s no better place than El Tano. This place offers a “Parrilla libre” – an all-you-can-eat experience where you can sample countless cuts of meat.

While there are pasta options, I recommend focusing on the meat because the food will be flowing over your table. The entraña (skirt steak), matambre, and ribs are a must. And if you’re a true meat lover, try the chinchulines.

El Tano is an authentic, no-frills Argentine steak experience. There are no tourists here. Just locals enjoying one of the best steaks in Buenos Aires. 

I have to say that the lively atmosphere at the restaurant is one of the main reasons I loved it so much. Be prepared for a lot of singing and dancing as well.

One important thing to note: the neighborhood isn’t the safest. If you plan to eat at El Tano, hire a driver, as Uber and taxis may not be available. When we made this mistake, the owner kindly arranged for a friend to drive us home safely.

10. La Estancia Asador Criollo

La Estancia Asador Criollo is one of the most famous steakhouses in Buenos Aires, and for good reason! I was initially skeptical when I saw a group of tourists entering, but so many Buenos Aires steak guides recommended it that we decided to take a chance. I’m glad we did.

Located just a few meters from the famous Obelisco, this restaurant has become a favorite among tourists, thanks to its asado that you can see cooking from the street and the incredible flavor of its meat.

I highly recommend trying the chivito or the suckling pig. However, the traditional cuts are also a safe bet. If you don’t feel like having steak, there are several pasta dishes to choose from as well.

Since it’s a large restaurant, the service can be a bit slower than in other places, but it’s still high quality and professional. We speak Spanish, which may have helped, but the staff was friendly overall. Prices are higher than in other spots, but they’re still reasonable for the quality.

Unlike many restaurants in Buenos Aires that open very late, this one operates nonstop from 12 pm to 12 am. If you’re used to eating early like me, you’ll appreciate that! I recommend avoiding peak dining hours for a more relaxed experience.
