For those seeking a more laid-back and bohemian vibe, Canggu is the perfect destination. This trendy beach town, located on the southwestern coast of Bali, has become a haven for digital nomads, surfers, and yoga enthusiasts.

Canggu offers a unique blend of hip cafes, stylish boutiques, and world-class surf breaks. And it is truly one of the best towns in Bali.

Kynd Community Canggu is, without a doubt, one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Canggu. This vegetarian cafe is best known for its cruel free menu and the modern but cute ambiance. Try some of their smoothie bowls and thank me later.

Another delicious and Insta-famous spot is Cafe Vida, where you can find a wide range of vegan and vegetarian food, but also some other choices.

If you want to hang out at the beach clubs, Canggu won’t disappoint. La Brisa is one of the most exclusive beach clubs in Bali. It is home to a breathtaking ambiance, sustainably sourced food, and genuine Balinese hospitality.

When it’s about shopping, Canggu boasts a wide range of shops and boutiques. The best place to visit to purchase some local crafts is the Love Anchor Market Canggu. In this picturesque market, you can find several products, from souvenirs to pieces of clothing.

Located on the southwestern coast of Bali, Seminyak is another iconic place where you can find the most beautiful beaches in Bali and countless cafes & restaurants. The white sandy beaches of Seminyak stretch for miles, offering the perfect spot for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing.

Petitenget Beach derives its name from the nearby Petitenget Temple. It is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy a stunning sunset view or indulge in surfing. Compared to the more crowded beaches of Kuta and Canggu, Petitenget Beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere.

Here you can also find the iconic Mano Beach House, a stylish beach club where you can enjoy a cocktail or try some delicious fusion cuisine. If you feel in the mood for something different, Sea Circus Restaurant & Bar is the perfect location to try some tacos and beers.

Most beautiful places in Ubud

Tegalalang Rice Terraces

Tegalalang Rice Terraces is definitely, one of the best places in Bali. This is the perfect place to visit an iconic location on the island and take a relaxing walk between the rice terraces.

The rice fields are located on the side of the road and you can take advantage of the views from the moment you arrive. However, I suggest you head down to the bridge, cross the little river, and explore the other side of Tegalalang Rice Terraces. 

Considering that this is an extremely popular place, I highly recommend visiting Tegalalang Rice Terraces early in the morning. This way you can beat the crowds and avoid harsh lights and the heat.

When we arrived around 7 am, we could access the fields without an entrance fee, but after leaving I saw people selling the tickets. I heard the entrance fee is around 25k IDR per person, but I am not sure how it works.

Also, make sure you bring water, some snacks, and comfortable shoes. The terraces can get extremely muddy, so if you are planning to visit more attractions after, bring an extra pair of sneakers. And make sure you plan a couple of hours to wander around and explore the rice terraces.

Tegenungan Waterfall

Tegenungan Waterfall is an easily accessible waterfall in Bali. It is located in the village of Tegenungan Kemenuh on the Petanu River in the Gianyar Regency, 30 minutes away from Ubud. Despite having a pretty isolated location it became one of the tourist attractions in Bali.

The waterfall is the perfect place to take a refreshing dip to escape the Balinese heat or take some photos of the beautiful surroundings.

For an extra treat, a restaurant is available on-site where you can have a drink with a view. Nearby you can also find a swing, but there is a separate ticket to buy to use it. 

The entrance fee is 20k IDR and you will have to pay another 20k IDR for the upper part, which is the best spot for taking the photos. And considering its popularity, I highly recommend visiting Tegenungan Waterfall early in the morning.

The Holy Spring Water of Pura Tirta Empul

The Tirta Empul Temple, also known as Pura Tirta Empul, is a revered Hindu water temple located in the village of Tampaksiring, just a short drive from Ubud. It is one of the most beautiful places in Bali and you have to add it to your itinerary.

The main highlight of the Tirta Empul Temple is its natural spring water pools. The pools are believed to possess purifying and healing properties. These springs are sourced from a holy mountain spring and are channeled into various fountains and pools within the temple complex. 

Visitors can also engage in a spiritual cleansing ritual known as “melukat.” The ritual involves a series of steps, including prayers, offerings, and bathing in the holy springs. It is believed that by participating in this ritual, one can cleanse their body, mind, and soul.

It is open from 8 am to 6 pm and the entrance fee is 50k IDR. If you want to take part in the Spiritual Cleansing, check out this experience and choose and choose an add-on to participate.

Campuhan Ridge Walk

Campuhan Ridge Walk is a  scenic trekking trail offering breathtaking vistas of lush landscapes, rolling hills, and the gentle flow of the Campuhan River. It is one of the most beautiful places in Bali and you don’t want to miss out.

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is suitable for people of various fitness levels. The trail is well-marked and relatively easy to navigate, making it accessible for both experienced hikers and casual walkers.

The entire route stretches for approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), providing a pleasant stroll that can be completed in around 1-2 hours. At the end of the hike, you will find multiple cafes in case you want to take a break or get some food.

Go to the Pos Pecalang Desa Ubud, take the path on the left, and follow the directions. Once you see cafes like Hilltop Cafe Ubud or Warung Widi Coffee, you are at the end of the path, so this is where you can take a break and go back or get a ride back to your hotel instead.

There is no entrance fee to visit this trek, however, I highly recommend visiting it early in the day as it gets busy during the day. Especially during high season.

Sweet Orange Walk Trail

The Sweet Orange Walk Trail is a hidden gem in Bali located in the heart of Ubud. This trail offers a delightful escape from the noise and chaos of everyday life. Stretching for approximately 4 kilometers, the Sweet Orange Walk Trail takes you through lush green rice fields.

As you walk along the path, you’ll witness the traditional methods of rice cultivation that have been practiced in Bali for centuries. The trail also offers a unique opportunity to interact with the local community.

Overall, it is a simple trek where you can leisurely appreciate the beauty of nature in Bali. After visiting challenging paths that lead to some other beautiful places in Bali, this was a breeze.

Simply look up Sweet Orange Walk Trail on Google Maps and it will lead you to it – the route is pretty easy to follow, so you don’t need any additional directions.

Saraswati Temple

Saraswati Temple is located in the heart of Ubud and it is one of the top places to visit in Bali. Dedicated to the goddess Saraswati, who represents knowledge, arts, and wisdom in Balinese Hinduism, the temple stands as a revered symbol of the local culture.

One of the most impressive features of the Saraswati Temple is its splendid architecture. As visitors enter the temple grounds, they are greeted by a grand entrance adorned with traditional Balinese stone carvings and intricate statues.

The temple’s central courtyard is a sight to behold. It is surrounded by lotus ponds, which are often teeming with blooming lotus flowers. These elegant blooms create a serene and picturesque setting and you won’t be able to resist using your camera.

There is no entrance fee and it won’t take a lot of your free time as it is very small, but trust me, you want to add it to your list of must-visit places in Bali.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Situated in Beng Village approximately 30 minutes away from Ubud, Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a hidden gem in Bali waiting to be discovered.

This lesser-known waterfall offers a unique and charming experience. The gentle flow creates a peaceful and magical atmosphere, enhanced by the soft sunlight filtering through the surrounding nature. 

So if you want to discover Bali away from the tourist spots, this is the place to be. You don’t have to worry about the crowds. The place is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking Balinese nature.

Compared to other waterfalls on the island, this is smaller. However, on the other hand, the more intimate atmosphere makes it worth it worth visiting.

The path to the waterfall is easy and short, however, it gets very muddy during the rainy season, which makes it challenging. It is better to visit Kanto Lampo Waterfall during the dry season. If you need a break you will also find a couple of places where to eat or get a drink.

It is open from 6.30 am to 5.30 pm and the entrance fee is 10k IDR. 

Ubud Palace

The Ubud Palace is a historical and cultural landmark and it is one of the must-visit places in Bali. You can either visit during the day and take some photos of the place itself or join a dance performance for some unique postcards from Ubud.

These performances showcase the richness and beauty of Balinese culture through intricate dance movements, vibrant costumes, and expressive storytelling. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Bali and I highly recommend you go to see it as well. Get your ticket here.

It is open from 7 am to 5 pm and shows usually start around 7 pm. If you are not interested in the show, I suggest you arrive early, because the place is small and it gets crowded quickly. And it is completely free to visit during the day.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfall, located in Tembuku Village, offers a truly unforgettable experience. To reach this natural sight, you’ll need to navigate a short trek through a narrow canyon.

The waterfall, framed by towering cliffs and lush vegetation, creates an amazing play of light and shadows. This is just a perfect spot if you are a photography lover.

Considering its unique setting, you can visit the waterfall any time of the day. My recommendation is that you head to Tukad Cepung Waterfall around 9 am and wait for the sun’s rays to show (this depends on the season and weather conditions).

Overall, this is the most challenging place to reach. But if that doesn’t scare you, head to Tukad Cepung Waterfall and you will see one of the most beautiful places in Bali with your own eyes.

The entrance fee is 15k IDR per person.

Most beautiful places in the North of Bali

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is without a doubt one of the top places to visit in Bali. This Hindu-Shaivite temple complex lies near the shores of Bratan Lake, and its iconic location makes it one of the most famous places on the island.

Constructed in the 17th century, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Dewi Danu, who is considered the goddess of water, lakes, and rivers. The temple’s architecture reflects traditional Balinese design, with tiered pagodas and intricately carved stone structures.

The appearance of the temple and its surroundings may vary depending on the season. During the wet season, the temple may appear as if it is floating on the water due to the rise in the lake’s level, creating a unique sight.

Visiting Ulun Danu Beratan Temple during the beginning of the wet season can offer the best of both worlds: pleasant weather and the charming view of the temple floating in the water. 

Since this is one of the main tourist attractions in Bali, my recommendation is to visit the temple early morning to avoid big crowds. 

The entrance fee is 75k IDR and it is open from 7 am to 7 pm. You can also enjoy speed boat rides, pedal boats, and raft boats. It gives a unique perspective on the temple and it is an absolute must.

Bali Handara Gate

Bali Handara Gate is one of the best places to visit in Bali for first-timers as it will give you the chance to snap an iconic photo with a popular attraction. Your photo gallery from Bali wouldn’t be complete without visiting the famous Bali gates. 

Since the gate is part of a golf course and not a traditional temple or historical site, visitors should be aware that the primary purpose of the gate is as an entrance to the golf course. Nonetheless, its stunning design and location have made it a sought-after photo spot for tourists.

To make the most of your visit and avoid long lines, my recommendation is to plan your visit during non-peak hours when there are likely to be fewer people trying to take photos at the gate.

I will be honest that for me this gate was a bit disappointing. I think it is a beautiful place, but the long queue is not fun. Therefore, I recommend you visit this attraction purely for photos. If you are not on the hunt for photo locations, you can skip this place and move on to the next one.

The ticket fee is 30k IDR and it is open-air, so you can go anytime.

Tamblingan Lake – Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan

The Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan sits on the shore of Lake Danau Tamblinga and this is probably one of my favorite hidden gems in Bali. This ancient temple dates back to the 10th century and it always played a key role in the local culture.

Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan, located on the shores of the lake, is a temple that holds deep religious importance. Constructed to honor the Balinese water goddess Dewi Danu, the temple’s architectural simplicity reflects traditional Balinese design.

It is not unusual to see locals coming here to pay their respects and camp in the area. Every year there is a celebration where the Balinese gather in a feisty celebration.

On site you will also find the chance to rent a boat or a canoe, with or without a skipper, to enjoy the lake and the temple from a different perspective. 

Access to the site costs 10k IDR per person and the trek to Bali Twin Lake Viewpoint is 600k IDR. A canoe ride around the lake will cost you 300k IDR, but you can get a combined ticket and save a bit of money. You will see the price list at the entrance.

Munduk Rice Fields

Rice fields are an absolute must when visiting Bali and for all the right reasons. Tegallalang and Jatiluwih rice terrace are some of the most famous places in Bali, however, Munduk Rice Fields offers an authentic touch and laid-back experience.

During the plantation season, the fields may not look as lush and green as during the harvest season. So, the harvest season is undoubtedly the best to enjoy an iconic view of the green and yellow rice terraces.

For those with a love for trekking, Munduk offers a golden opportunity to explore the terrain on foot. The reward is panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see and endless photo opportunities on every corner.

You can visit Munduk Rice Terraces for free, as they are open 24 hours every day, and accessible from public roads.

Sambangan Secret Garden

For those seeking an escape amidst the beauty of Bali’s nature, the Sambangan Secret Garden stands out as a must-visit destination in Bali. Nestled within this hidden gem are spectacular waterfalls that weave seamlessly into the lush surroundings.

Nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers will find a haven in Sambangan Secret Garden. Apart from relaxing and tanning by the waterfalls, you can also engage in trekking and waterslides.

It is open from 8 am to 5 pm, however, considering that this is not a popular attraction, you won’t find many people around. When it comes to the entrance fee, there are multiple options.

• Basic Entry: This option allows you to visit the Blue Lagoon and explore on your own. The fee for this is 25k IDR, and an additional 2000 IDR is charged for parking your vehicle.
• Full Experience: If you want to make the most of your visit and see all five waterfalls while also enjoying the waterslides and jumps, you can opt for the full experience package. This package costs 300k IDR.

Most beautiful places in the East of Bali

Besakih Temple

Besakih Temple, also known as Pura Besakih or the Mother Temple of Bali, is a religious complex located on the slopes of Mount Agung, which is the highest and most sacred volcano in Bali.

The temple complex is made up of 23 separate temples, each dedicated to various deities in Hinduism. Its particular location and the beauty of the complex make it one of the unique places to visit in Bali. 

The history of Besakih Temple is ancient, with its roots dating back to prehistoric times. However, it is known to have become a Hindu place of worship around the year 1284. 

The three main temples within Besakih are dedicated to the three primary gods in Hinduism: Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. These three deities represent the divine trinity in Hindu theology. The complex also houses several smaller structures and shrines dedicated to lesser gods and deities.

Due to its historical and religious significance, Besakih Temple is a special place for the Balinese people and also attracts tourists. Its location on the slopes of Mount Agung provides a breathtaking backdrop for spiritual contemplation and exploration.

The entrance fee to visit Besakih Temple is 60k IDR per person and it opens from 8 am to 5 pm.

Pura Segara Ulun Danu Batur

With its combination of natural beauty, cultural significance, and peaceful ambiance, Ulun Danu Temple is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Bali. It offers a unique and enriching experience for anyone exploring the island’s cultural heritage.

Lying on the banks of Lake Batur, it has stunning natural surroundings and impressive architectural beauty. Its name “Ulun Danu” literally means “water temple on Batur Lake,” which aptly describes its location.

One of the reasons why Ulun Danu Temple is considered a hidden gem of Bali is that it is not frequently visited by tourists compared to other popular temples in Bali.

Just like the Besakih Temple, Ulun Danu’s significance lies in its dedication to the three primary deities in Hinduism: Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. This makes it an essential spiritual and cultural center for the Balinese people, and it holds religious ceremonies and rituals regularly.

If you arrive early in the morning, you may be able to enter without an entrance fee. However, if you visit later in the day, there is a fee ranging from 10k to 20k IDR (don’t ask me why!). Additionally, you might have to rent traditional Balinese clothing, which will cost you around 15k IDR.

Unlike some other temples that have specific opening hours, Ulun Danu is open 24/7, allowing visitors to explore and experience its beauty at any time of day or night.

Pura Lempuyang

Pura Lempuyang is without a doubt one of the most famous tourist attractions in Bali. This comes with a price to pay, in a term of money and especially time.

People from around the globe visit the temple known as the “Gate to Heaven” to capture viral-worthy pictures for social media.

The trick is the “mirror effect.” They set up reflective surfaces to make it look like you’re standing in front of a temple reflection. And guess what? The temple staff will snap the perfect shot for you using your phone. Easy peasy!

While Pura Lempuyang is considered one of the holiest temples in Bali, the overall experience feels commercialized and less spiritually authentic due to its high popularity among tourists. The whole concept and the demand for pictures and social media posts are just one of the reasons.

The temple is open from 7 am to 5 pm, nevertheless, If you want to experience the temple more spiritually, I recommend you come at least at 5 am or after 5 pm.

The entrance fee is 100k IDR and you will need to pay another 50k IDR for a shuttle service because you can’t use your transportation to reach the temple.

Tirta Gangga – Water Gardens

Tirtta Gangga also known as the Water Palace or Water Gardens is located on the slopes of the famous Mount Agung, it is one of the unique places to visit in Bali and you don’t want to miss it.

The main attraction of Tirta Gangga is the large pond with a path and rows of guardian figures. Visitors can stroll around the pond, enjoying a close-up view of the old and large golden carp that inhabit the clear waters.

The springs, which are considered holy by the locals, can be found on higher ground to the right of the entrance, under a large banyan tree. These springs are an integral part of religious ceremonies in the area and also serve as a source of potable water for daily use.

To visit Tirta Gangga, there is an entrance fee of 50k IDR. The opening hours are from 8 am to 5 pm, however, you will want to be one of the first to enter, because it gets crowded shortly after.

Taman Ujung

Taman Ujung is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in Bali. Its strategic location near the sea and Mount Agung adds to its appeal, making it a must-see destination for travelers.

Originally built as a royal residence in 1909, the palace was completed in 1921 and served as the king’s abode. The architectural design of Taman Ujung showcases a delightful fusion of different styles from both Asian and European influences, creating a unique location.

The lush gardens and colorful flowers that surround the palace contribute to the picturesque setting. The presence of water mirrors adds a touch of magic and tranquility to the place, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

One of the standout features of Taman Ujung is the floating palace, located at the heart of the complex. This is an architectural gem of art and design.

The bridges that connect the palace to the gardens not only serve a practical purpose but also offer visitors the chance to capture iconic pictures due to their sheer beauty.

Another notable icon within Taman Ujung is the charming little gazebo, perched atop a staircase on the northern side of the complex. This gazebo offers visitors a perfect spot to admire the scenic surroundings and enjoy the beauty of the palace and its gardens.

To visit Taman Ujung, there is an entrance fee of 75k IDR. The opening hours are from 7 am to 7 pm.

Lahangan Sweet

Lahangan Sweet is one of the newest and most iconic viewpoints where you can admire the most beautiful nature in Bali. The stunning view of Mt Agung will allow you to take one of the coolest photos in Bali.

The journey to reach Lahangan Sweet involves a mostly manageable road, but the last kilometer can be bumpy. If you have access to a 4×4 car, it would be beneficial, but experienced scooter drivers should also be able to handle the trip.

Once you arrive near the viewpoint, you’ll need to take a short but steep hike to get to the best viewpoint in Bali. Do keep in mind that during the wet season, the access route may become complicated, so planning your visit during the drier months is advisable.

To access this iconic viewpoint, there is an entrance fee of 30k IDR, and the place is open 24/7. To get the best experience I recommend you to go around the sunset or sunrise hour.

Hidden Canyon Beji Guwang

The Hidden Canyon Beji Guwang lies on the south side of the island and it is the perfect place for adventurous travelers. If you are looking for the most beautiful nature in Bali, this place won’t disappoint.

Brace yourself for challenging treks involving climbing and getting wet, so dress accordingly for this unique Bali experience. But since it is one of the most unusual things to do in Bali, it is all worth it.

The trek takes about 1 to 2 hours, depending on your speed and ability. Consider bringing wet shoes for a more comfortable journey. Alternatively, there’s a back entrance through rice terraces if you prefer an easier route.

The entrance fees start at 200k IDR per person, including water, changing rooms, and a locker.
The Canyon is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Leke Leke Waterfall

Leke Leke Waterfall is one of the most iconic waterfalls on the island and one of the most beautiful places in Bali.

Located in the heart of the island, just an hour’s drive north of Ubud, Leke Leke Waterfall has astonished the hearts of locals and tourists, making it one of the most sought-after destinations on the island.

Once you get to the Leke Leke entrance, you will find a small trek to reach the waterfall. The trek is relatively easy and it will take between 15-30 minutes depending on your abilities. Either way, I recommend you wear comfortable shoes.

At the beginning of the path, you will also find a restaurant where you can get some beverages or stop for a bite.

The entrance fee is 50k IDR and it’s open every day from 7 am to 5 pm.

Tanah Lot

This iconic and enchanting temple is perched dramatically on the water, and it is one of the must-visit places in Bali. Located a short drive away from Canggu in Beraban, it is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Bali.

Built-in the 16th century, Tanah Lot is one of Bali’s seven sea temples, each strategically located along the coastline. The temple is dedicated to the Balinese sea gods, symbolizing the harmonious relationship between the Balinese people and the ocean. 

One of the most notable features of Tanah Lot is its unique architecture. The temple is built on a large offshore rock, and during low tide, visitors can walk to the base of the temple. The allure of Tanah Lot Temple is so profound that it has become one of the most visited places in Bali.

The entrance fee is 60k IDR and it’s open every day from 6 am to 7 pm. The best time to admire the temple is at sunset, to enjoy the wonderful view of the rocky island.

Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple is a Hindu Balinese temple dramatically perched on the top of a cliff on the south side of the island. This is one of the best places in Bali to visit if you are into beautiful landscapes and want to connect with the local culture.

This temple has symbolic importance for the Balinese people as it is part of the nine directional temples that safeguard the island from evil spirits.

With a history that dates back to the 11th century, Uluwatu Temple carries the weight of centuries of spiritual reverence and cultural significance. The temple serves as a conduit for divine energy and serves as a place of worship and connection to the divine for the Balinese people.

Visitors can discover Bali through this temple, but they have to follow some rules to respect the sanctity of the location. To ensure that the spiritual atmosphere is preserved, it is mandatory to wear a sarong and sash as a sign of respect before entering the temple premises.

Whenthinking about Bali, it is inevitable to not think about sandy beaches and wonderful ocean sunsets, so where to find the most beautiful beaches in Bali?

Nusa Dua is probably the most famous beach on the island. It is famous for the beauty of its clean white sands and the calm waters. The beach has a great number of luxury hotels and other infrastructures around.

Sanur is located north of Nusa Lua and is often compared to it for the beauty of the beach. Unlike Nusa Lua, Sanur offers a more affordable sunrise-coast experience for families.

In the extreme south point of Bali, lies Melasti Beach which is popular for its blue waters, impressive limestone cliffs, and peaceful atmosphere. This is the perfect location for swimming and snorkeling since the waves are never too high.

In Pecatu Village, on the southwest area of the island is Bingin Beach. This is one of my favorite hidden gems in Bali. It is one of the best places for surfing in Bali while offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean. If you are not a capable swimmer I would recommend another location.

Amed Beach is located in one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Bali, and it is where to find some of the most unique beaches on the island. This black volcanic sand beach is an iconic location on the island. Despite being one go the most beautiful places in Bali, it is still pretty low-key.
