The trail starts from the small village of Juta, located deep in the Caucasus Mountains in the Kazbegi region. You can use JutaHouse as your destination, as you will find parking just around the corner. 

The hike itself isn’t difficult. I’m not an experienced hiker and didn’t even wear proper hiking shoes, and I still managed just fine. The path begins with a short climb (30–50 minutes depending on your pace), and from there, it levels out.

We spent about 5 hours on the trail, stopping constantly for photos. We didn’t even finish the full route, and it was still absolutely worth it.

There’s a small hotel and bar at the top of the trail near Fifth Season, but we visited in November and everything was already closed, so bring some food and water, just in case. That said, the weather was fantastic, even that late in the season.

If you’re wondering what to see in Georgia that feels completely out of this world, head to the Katskhi Column. This massive natural limestone pillar stands 40 meters tall, rising straight out of the ground in the middle of western Georgia. 

At the very top of the column are a church, a burial chamber, a wine cellar, a curtain wall, and three hermit cells. The climb up takes around 20 minutes by a steel ladder fixed to the side, but today only local monks are allowed to make the ascent.

Katskhi Column is still celebrated as one of the most sacred landmarks on Earth, and seeing it in person is something you won’t forget. The best views are from the nearby highway or parking area, where you can stop and admire the pillar rising dramatically against the sky.

Today, White Cave has been beautifully renovated and is becoming a rising star in Georgia tourism. It’s now known for health tourism, thanks to the natural air quality and microclimate believed to help with respiratory issues. 

The temperature is cool year-round, and the cave is lit just enough to guide you through. The wine tasting includes a selection of local wines, served in a quiet space inside the cave. It’s a completely different setting from the usual wineries and is worth the experience.

💡 A modest dress code is required, so no tank tops, short skirts, or shorts! There are scarves at the entrance in case needed. Also, it is built on top of the mountain, so it is almost always windy. A flowy dress won’t be the right choice for visiting this church.

9. Try the Best Adjarian Khachapuri in Batumi

One of the must-have Georgian food experiences is trying Adjarian Khachapuri—a boat-shaped bread filled with melted cheese, topped with butter and a runny egg. This dish comes from the Adjara region, and the best place to try it is right where it was born: Batumi.

Batumi is not only famous for its seaside charm but also stands out as one of the best cities to visit in Georgia. Walking through the city, you’ll find plenty of places offering khachapuri, but Porto Franco stands out as the top choice.

Prices for Acharuli Khachapuri usually range from 7 to 14 GEL, depending on size. And yes, this is a dish you eat with your hands. Tear the bread from the edges and dip it straight into the cheese, mashing it with the egg and butter, just like a real Georgian.

10. Visit Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery – Georgia’s Historic Capital

If you’re interested in historical sites in Georgia, don’t miss the chance to explore Mtskheta, the country’s old capital and one of its most important cultural centers. This charming town is home to ancient churches, cobbled streets, and impressive views.

Batumi is quite unlike any other city in Georgia, and it is most certainly worth visiting. It offers a fascinating contrast to other, more traditional, destinations in the country and keeps another treasure of the country – the Black Sea.

It gets particularly busy during the summer because not only Georgians come here, but tourists also love this sunny destination. After all, it is one of the best summer destinations in Europe!

Located on a hill near the Tbilisi Sea, the Chronicle of Georgia tells the story of Georgia’s kings, heroes, and Christian heritage through towering stone pillars carved with dramatic reliefs. Without a doubt, this is one of the best places to visit in Georgia.

Built in the 1980s by Georgian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, the site is often called Georgia’s “Stonehenge” because of its scale and mysterious feel. The columns stand up to 35 meters tall, and walking among them is a surreal experience.

Although it’s a bit outside the city center, you can easily reach the Chronicle of Georgia by taxi or Bolt. I recommend you negotiate the waiting time with your driver, because it could be hard getting a ride back. You should plan one hour for visiting the Chronicle of Georgia.
