Trocadero

I believe this is the most popular place where to take photos with Eiffel Tower, but “With great power comes great responsibility”. The good news is, it is literally impossible to take a bad photo from Trocadero. The bad news is, everyone knows this and everyone wants it. 

Since it is so complicated to avoid people in this famous Eiffel Tower photo spot, I want to go into detail and talk about the exact spots to capture the Eiffel Tower and leave other people behind the camera.

A realistic view of the Eiffel Tower

This is how it actually looks if you come for sunrise at 7 am during autumn on a working day. You can see that there are already people around and this central spot most probably will not give you satisfying results. Especially if you want to take photos with your phone and keep the background all sharp.

Let’s talk about a workaround and discover even better photo spots with Eiffel Tower at the Trocadero.

Cut the crowd near Eiffel Tower

Stay on the top of Trocadero but move to the side. Already looks much better, right?

I advise you to keep the aperture somewhere from f/1.4-2.4 in order to create the depth of field and keep the focus on yourself. This way you can basically cut other people out of your photo.

Also, I didn’t have a zoom lens back then, but try to play with perspective, even if you have to cut the Eiffel Tower, you can get some unique photos with Eiffel Tower.

Shoot the Eiffel Tower any time of the day

This actually was taken late in the afternoon while Trocadero was full of people. Once you arrive at the stairs, you can easily take nice photos with Eiffel on the corner before going down from Trocadero.

I chose to take this photo with a 50mm lens and cut the Eiffel Tower, but here even your phone can take a beautiful photo. Maybe we can call this a sunset spot with the Eiffel Tower? I clearly failed with that as the sky was gloomy, but give it a try! Especially if you struggle with waking up early.

The best view of the Eiffel Tower from Trocadero

Last but not least – the stairs of Trocadero. This is probably my favorite Eifel Tower photo spot as it is very easy to avoid people. The wall hides most of the pavement and gives you just enough space to use that 50mm zoom lens that creates a shallow depth of field.

Summary

• What to wear to Trocadero? Wear the most dramatic dress that you have, this place deserves something extra. 
• Best time to take photos at Trocadero? As early as possible – around sunrise on a working day. 
• Camera gear? Bring your camera and zoom lens (50-85mm). This will give you a nice depth of field and bring the background closer.

Au Canon des Invalides

Someone probably will say that this is not a typical Instagram photo spot in Paris, however, I will have to disagree. This is a perfect spot to capture the busy rhythm of Paris and busy is the synonym for Paris. It is a great place for those who love street photography.

Using a wide aperture will help you to keep the focus on yourself and you will not be lost in all this charming mess. A zoom lens can be a perfect solution for this photo spot, so you make the Eiffel Tower appear closer than it actually is.

And the good thing is that you can take photos at this spot any time of the day. No need to wake up at sunrise and rush here – quite the opposite. Considering harsh lights, it can be another great sunset spot in Paris.

• What to wear? I would avoid prints and wear something colorful if I had to go back. You certainly don’t want to get lost in the scenery.
• Best time? Any time of the day, even better during sunset.
• Camera gear? Zoom, zoom, zoom! The Eiffel Tower looks insignificant with a wide-angle lens. 

Port Debilly

This spot for me is pretty obvious, but I am surprised how many people miss it! Most of the tourists take photos from Voie Georges Pompidou when there are stairs that take you down to this cute promenade that is almost empty any time of the day.

You can combine it with Trocadero, but I think it is particularly beautiful during sunset… You have the sight of the Eiffel Tower with a gentle golden light – I call that perfection. 

Here you can see two different lenses almost from the same spot. If you ask me, I love the one with a 50 mm lens, but you have to sacrifice and cut the Iron Lady. If you like more scenic photos, a wide-angle lens and your phone is the best choice.

• What to wear? Wear the most flattering dress that you have. You are sharing the photo with Iron lady and you want to keep it up, right?  
• Best time? Once you are done in Trocadero, you can move on to this spot as it is nearby. Sunsets are magical too. 
• Camera gear? I prefer a 50mm lens and keep the focus on myself. But you could get a panoramic photo even with your phone.

Square Rapp

This photo spot is a true hidden gem in Paris. You will not meet any people around, so you can have this unique view all to yourself and don’t need to worry about the crowds.

In case you want to take photos behind the gate, you will have to enter the private courtyard, therefore, stay respectful and keep the noise down. Otherwise, you can place your camera right next to the gate and take your photo from there.

• What to wear? In between all the pastel palaces, your colorful dress will pop out beautifully. 
• Best time? Any time of the day. 
• Camera gear? Bring a wide-angle lens as there is not much space to capture the entire Eiffel Tower.

Avenue de Camoens 

Stunning view of the Iron Lady hidden in a tiny street that is not full of bloggers and Instagrammers fighting for the best spot! Plenty of space, plenty of different angles, and plenty of time for getting comfortable in front of the camera.

This is hands down one of the best Eiffel Tower photo spots in Paris that you don’t want to miss! You can bring some props to make your photos more unique, I choose to go for a newspaper, but it can be flowers, hats or anything else that you like!

• What to wear? Bring a maxi dress in order to stand out in the photo. 
• Best time? Any time of the day.
• Camera gear? 35-50mm will give you great results without cutting the Iron Lady. My personal preference is 50mm.
